University of Karachi, Medics Laboratories forge partnership for herbal, pharma research

KARACHI: In a significant move to strengthen academic-industry collaboration, the University of Karachi (KU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Medics Laboratories (Pvt) Limited, one of Pakistan’s leading phytopharmaceutical companies. The partnership aims to promote herbal manufacturing research, pharmaceutical innovations, and postgraduate studies in the field of natural sciences.

According to an official statement, this collaboration will bring together the KU Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to work on joint research projects.

Key Highlights of the MoU:

✅ Research & Development:
KU and Medics Laboratories will conduct collaborative research in herbal product manufacturing, natural sciences, and pharmaceutical advancements.

✅ Postgraduate Research Sponsorship:
Medics has committed a Rs 1 million sponsorship for MPhil and PhD research projects:

  • Rs 750,000 allocated to the Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences
  • Rs 250,000 for the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

✅ Student Career Opportunities:
KU students will have access to job placements, internships, and industrial training programs at Medics Laboratories, equipping them with real-world industry experience.

✅ Knowledge Sharing & Industry Exposure:
Medics will organize seminars, industrial visits, and professional training programs for students and faculty members, ensuring a strong link between academia and the pharmaceutical industry.

MoU Signing Ceremony

The official MoU signing ceremony took place at the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat. KU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and Medics Laboratories CEO & Director, Azeem Hussain, formally inked the documents, marking the beginning of this strategic collaboration.
