KARACHI: Dr Amtullah Sheikh, representatives of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) expressing deep shock over the recent mysterious death of Dr Sheikh at a presser organised at PMA House. He demanded a fair investigation and speedy justice in the case.
A senior surgeon who graduated from the Sindh Medical College (SMC) in 1986, Dr Sheikh was found dead in her Bahadurabad apartment.
“Her tragic death has shaken the whole medical fraternity with a sense of anger and insecurity,” said PMA-Karachi general secretary Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro, adding that the initial post-mortem report had revealed torture marks on her body.
Rejecting reports that Dr Sheikh had been experiencing depression for some time, Dr Humayun Bashir, an SMC alumnus and colleague of Dr Sheikh, said the doctor was popular in the medical fraternity because of her dedicated professional and active social life.
“She was not that kind of a person to go under depression as being suggested by some people,” he said, adding that there was a property dispute in the family.
