Health Dept forms commission to prevent HIV/AIDS in Sindh

KARACHI- Sindh Health Department has notified Sindh HIV/AIDS Control, Treatment and Protection Commission to prevent and control HIV prevalence throughout the Sindh province.

The commission comprises five governing body members and ten working body members, including doctors, HIV/AIDS experts, social workers, retired judges lawyers and others.

According to Sindh Health Department's notification, Ms. Majida Rizvi (ex-judge), Dr Bashir Arain (retired brigadier), Shabir Shaikh (retired judge), Gul Muneer Shah (retired judge), Dr Hussain Bux Memon ( Ex DG Health Sindh) have been deputed as members of the governing body. The working body consists of Dr Rafiq Khananai (infectious diseases expert), Dr Shobha (expert infection prevention), Dr Naseem Salahauddin (in-charge HIV treatment Centre), Dr Fatima Mir (AKH), Asif Soomro (Lawyer), Dr Sharaf Ali Shah( NGO), Muhammad Raza (representative PLHIV), Mrs Rubab (risk community member), Bindia Rana (transgender activist) and the Program Manager of the Sindh AIDS Control Program.

Approximately, there are 65,000 HIV/AIDS patients in Sindh province, out of which 16,000 have been reported at HIV Centres being run by Sindh AIDS Control Program since 1996; while SACP has registered more than 12,000 HIV/AIDS patients in Sindh between 2006 to 2019.
