Clinical trials prove Breast Cancer Vaccine safe

USA: According to WHO, Breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancer types. 1 in 8 oncological diagnoses has known to be relative to breast cancer.

Since a majority of the diagnosis is found in females, being a woman is one major risk factor of the disease.

Dr. Kotryna Temcinaite, senior research communications manager at Breast Cancer Now explained:

“Breast cancer is not a single disease, which makes it more difficult to treat. There are many types of breast cancer and treatments that work well for some people, may not work as well for others. That’s why we need to undertake further research into the disease and develop kinder and smarter treatments.”

A new study published in the JAMA Oncology has now proved that a vaccine may be able to treat Breast Cancer.

The University of Washington Medicine Cancer Vaccine Institute has been working on an experimental vaccine that has shown a significant immune response to the protein tumour to ERBB, previously known as HER2.

The study incorporated a test sample of 66 people aged 33 to 64 years. These participants were vaccinated with 10ug, 100ug, and 500ug doses of the plasmid DNA.

The participants were observed for vaccine toxicity and DNA persistence between 16 to 36 weeks. Common side effects of the vaccine were exhibited as flu like symptoms, fever and headaches.

The vaccine proved a positive hypothesis and showed best positive results in diminishing the tumour at the highest intensity of vaccine.
