KARACHI: Dr Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health, recently unveiled that the inclusion of diabetic subjects in the general curriculum was on the cards to make the children aware of the disease while addressing a panel on 'Diabetes - A National Challenge'.
The SAPM that our diabetic patterns had become inadequate is why the talks regarding inclusion in the curriculum were underway with the ministry of education. He said that 'Eat Less, Walk More', a significant but straightforward sentence, appropriately described living a healthy life.
Dr Faisal informed that many measures were being taken to improve the country's primary healthcare system as healthy activities had diminished from our society, and there was a dire need of reviving them.
"It is high time to create a healthy environment through various activities to overcome the diseases like diabetes. We are actively working on bringing amendments to improve the health system in the country through the Pakistan Nursing Council.", he clarified.
The SAPM also suggested Sindh launch an active 1122 ambulance service to facilitate the patients.
Dr Akram Sultan, Prof Dr Zaman Shaikh, Prof Dr Abdul Basit, Dr Seema and others also highlighted the importance of overcoming the challenges following diabetes in Pakistan, stating how costly diabetes treatment is.
The panellists also stressed the need for raising public awareness of diabetes. They said that primary prevention should be the main focus to avert diabetes ailment.
