Man dies after receiving the first pig heart transplant

MARYLAND: David Bennett, the first human to receive a heart transplant from a pig, died two months after the pioneering procedure, according to the hospital that performed the surgery. 

Bennett, 57, died at a Maryland hospital, and doctors did not provide an exact cause of death.

The hospital said in a statement that Bennett's condition deteriorated several days ago and that he was offered compassionate palliative care when it became evident that he would not recover.

They are grieved at Mr Bennett's demise. He was a courageous and noble patient who fought to the bitter end, said to Dr Bartley Griffith, who performed the surgery at the Baltimore hospital.
