Two public varsities ink MoU with AHPG for healthcare workers’ training

KARACHI: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) and Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) with the Association of Healthcare Professionals Globally (AHPG), an international non-profit organization, to collaborate in the education and training of healthcare professionals, addressing the global shortage of the medical workforce.

The MoU signing ceremony took place at a local hotel in Karachi, where Dr Ashar Afaq and Azam Khan, Registrars representing DUHS and JSMU respectively, signed the agreement.

Dr Jamilur Rehman, the representative from AHPG, played a key role in formalizing the partnership. Prof Muhammad Saeed Quraishy, Vice Chancellor, DUHS, Prof Dr Amjad Siraj Memon, Vice Chancellor, JSMU, Dr Abdul Bari, CEO, Indus Hospital, Dr Mazhar Sheikh, Dr Tipu Sultan, Dr Akhtar Chughtai, and others were present at the ceremony.

Prof Quraishy, addressing the gathering, highlighted the global shortage of healthcare professionals and the crucial need to address this issue. He said the collaboration with AHPG is an opportunity for doctors and allied health professionals to explore job opportunities abroad. DUHS, known for producing a substantial number of professionals in allied health sciences globally, is well-positioned to contribute to this initiative, he added.

Prof. Dr Amjad Siraj Memon emphasized the potential of addressing nursing vacancies in countries like Ireland through the skillful training of allied health sector professionals in Pakistan.

Dr Jamilur Rahman, Dr Mazhar Sheikh, and other founders of AHPG highlighted the organization's mission to bridge the gap in healthcare professionals globally.

As a registered organization in the United States, AHPG aims to train and mentor doctors and allied healthcare specialists, including many former students of medical institutions in Pakistan. The shortage of healthcare professionals worldwide is a challenge that AHPG seeks to address by providing training and creating opportunities for employment globally, including in Pakistan.
