Karachi's East district reports highest proportion of Omicron cases

KARACHI: According to the Government of Sindh, District East had the highest number of Omicron cases in Karachi.

According to sources, the district registered 43 per cent of the confirmed instances of the new variation. In the previous 24 hours, 109 Omicron instances had been reported.

The government and health experts were concerned since the COVID-19 positive rate in Karachi has crossed 15 per cent.

According to National Command Operation Center, Karachi is one of the cities most impacted by Omicron. On December 13, the government announced the first case of the highly transmissible strain in Pakistan. Since then, a COVID-19 outbreak has been observed in Lahore and Islamabad.

Murtaza Wahab, Administrator, Karachi, had stated that the government had not yet decided on a lockdown in Sindh, despite speculations spreading on social media.
