THE HAGUE: The European Medicines Agency (EMA) recently stated that cases of Omicron so far appear to be "mostly mild" but warned that the variation might cause serious ailments.

Marco Cavaleri, Head of biological health threats and vaccines strategy, EMA, indicated that although the cases appear to be generally mild, further information is needed to evaluate if Omicron's illness severity spectrum differs from that of all other variations that had been circulating thus far.

Cavaleri remarked that it was too early to evaluate the effectiveness of immunizations against Omicron.

He explained that they do not have enough data on the influence of this mutation on the efficacy of authorized vaccinations at this time. However, they are continually searching the horizon for evidence in this domain.

Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, and AstraZeneca received EMA approval for COVID vaccines. It had also approved Merck's anti-COVID tablet, which had been touted as a game-changing medication since it can be used at home.
