Expressing serious concerns over the recent surge in polio cases in Pakistan, particularly in Islamabad, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has warned of the resurgence of this preventable disease and its potential impact on the health and well-being of children.
PMA Secretary General Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro stressed the urgent need for intensified vaccination efforts and public awareness campaigns to combat the growing polio threat. "The recent polio cases in Islamabad are a stark reminder of the critical importance of vaccination and the need for a coordinated response to safeguard our children from this debilitating disease," he stated.
The PMA called on the government, healthcare providers, and the public to prioritize polio eradication efforts and ensure that every child is vaccinated. Dr Shoro also stressed the importance of increasing vaccination campaigns and enhancing community engagement, particularly in high-risk areas.
Reaffirming PMA’s commitment to polio eradication, Dr Shoro said, "We must unite to ensure that every child is immunized, securing their health and future."
The PMA urged all stakeholders to act swiftly in response to the recent polio cases to protect children, eliminate the virus, and create a polio-free Pakistan.
