5 authentic flood relief funds you can donate to

More than 1,100 people have died in floods in Pakistan since June, and millions more have been rendered homeless and in need of emergency assistance as a result of the monsoon rains.

This year's total rainfall in Pakistan is approximately three above the national 30-year average. The National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan and the United Nations estimate that one-third of the country is now underwater and that more than 33 million people, or about 14 per cent of the population, have been impacted by the continuous flood. More than a fifth of Pakistan's GDP and more than a third of the country's labor force are directly or indirectly tied to agriculture, so the loss of 735,000 livestock and the damage to over 2 million acres of farmlands is a major blow.

How you can help?

Both the provincial and federal governments as well as a plethora of NGOs are doing all they can to aid the victims of the disaster. They will gladly appreciate both monetary and in-kind donations. Following are the five authentic flood relief funds to which you may communicate with them and contribute:

1.     Al-Khidmat

Since its inception in 1990, the Al-khidmat Foundation Pakistan has been one of the country's preeminent non-governmental organizations (NGOs) providing exclusively humanitarian aid. Employees and volunteers of Al-khidmat are still working around the clock to help those in need in Pakistan and beyond. Disaster response teams from the Al-khidmat Foundation Pakistan have been operating in flood-affected regions throughout the country from day one, saving lives and rescuing livelihoods by delivering meals, ration packs, tarps, medical supplies, and other necessities to those in need.

Without prepared food, dry ration packs, tents, and medical treatment, thousands of women and children have lost all hope. Help the Al-khidmat Foundation in its efforts to save thousands of lives by donating right now.

2.     JDC Foundation

The JDC Foundation has set up a massive rescue effort in South Punjab, Baluchistan, and Sindh, supplying impacted communities with dry food, water bottles, tents, and mobile cooking services. Their rescue teams are now on the scene, helping individuals in need with food, shelter, and medical attention.

Those who have made it to higher ground are in far greater danger now because they lack necessities like food, water, and shelter. Donate to the JDC foundation so that their needs, including medical care, may be met at this time of difficulty.

3.     Akhuwat

Akhuwat is a charitable organization that was officially recognized by the government of Pakistan in 2003 via its Societies Registration. The Federal Board of Revenue of Pakistan recognizes Akhuwat as a legitimate non-governmental organization. In keeping with its Mawakhat concept, Akhuwat is helping its fellow citizens who have been impacted by the current flooding in Pakistan. Akhuwat has established a "Flood Relief Fund" to aid the thousands of victims of the recent flooding in the region.

4.     Edhi Foundation

EDHI Foundation Pakistan flood relief teams have been on the ground in all of the flooded regions of Pakistan from day one, saving lives and rescuing livelihoods by delivering meals, dry ration packs, tarpaulin sheets, medical help, and other non-food essentials. Countless mothers and children have lost everything and are in severe need of prepared meals, dry ration packs, shelter, and medical attention.

5.     Helping hands

A non-governmental organization (NGO) Helping Hands has been working towards its stated goal of “a healthy, educated, and prosperous Pakistan" since 2005. They are helping others who have been affected by the flood even though they too need assistance.

Helping hands throughout the provinces of Baluchistan, Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistani teams are dispensing food, non-perishable commodities, medical aid, mobile water filtration services, and dry rations. As of August 24th, aid has been distributed to over 45,000 people across 16 jurisdictions. If you care about their continuing existence, please donate.

The bottom line

Since June 2022, monsoon flooding in Pakistan has harmed millions. Damages to houses, roads, bridges, and power plants are significant throughout the nation, especially in the Sindh and Punjab provinces. As of the 25th of August, tremendous rains and flash floods have forced more than 215,997 people into shelters and damaged 670,328 dwellings. The county has dubbed this an "epic" humanitarian crisis.
