KARACHI: At least nine ambulances of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi have been lying out of order for several months. No attempt has been made by the hospital’s administration to get them repaired, sources at the CHK noted recently.
There are 14 ambulances in the hospital for facilitating patients out of which nine are out of order, they said. Now only two high-roof ambulances and a Suzuki pickup are being used to transport patients while officials are using two other ambulances.
Sources said that these operational ambulances also require maintenance on an urgent basis. They informed that ten ambulances, including 2 Mercedes, 4 high-roof, 1 Toyota, and two other ambulances are standing idle in the hospital.
They said that the patients' attendants are facing severe problems in shifting their ill patients from the Civil Hospital Karachi to other hospitals of the city due to the lack of ambulances. Although funds are available for their repair, no attempts have been made to repair these out of order vehicles.
Medical Superintendent, Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, Dr Khadim Hussain Qureshi, was not available to make any comments.
