JPMC Management Fails to Break Doctors and Medical Representatives Nexus

KARACHI-  Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre’s (JPMC) management failed to break the unnecessary link between doctors and representatives of pharmaceutical companies, resulting in compromising patients during hospital’s rush hours.

The medical sales representatives and medical practitioners failed to abide by the directives issued to them, by hospital’s management, due to a weak vigilance system, resulting in violation of medical ethics. The unchecked practice of representatives’ meeting with doctors during OPD hours greatly affected patients negatively, as some doctors are prescribing costly medicines, to be purchased from targeted medial stores, to increase sales of their favorite pharmaceutical companies.

However, Executive Director JPMC, Dr. Seemin Jamali was not available for comments in this matter.

An administrative official informed that, the representatives of pharmaceutical companies visit the hospital everyday, going from ward to OPDs, without any hindrances. The influence of these representatives have badly affected patient care, as doctors spend most of their  time with them instead of providing consultation to patients and prescribing suitable medicines, in terms of cost and quick availability.
