KARACHI: The Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) administration has decreased the number of elective surgeries in the hospital for general medical conditions to handle the growing number of coronavirus patients, sources at the JPMC noted recently.
A senior surgeon of the JPMC said that the elective surgery ratio had been decreased by 40 per cent in the institution after the beginning of the third phase of COVID-19 in Pakistan. He informed that only emergency operations are being performed at present.
Earlier, the OPDs and elective services of all Sindh hospitals were suspended from March to September 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The suspension of elective services has created a lot of problems and hardships for poor patients across the Sindh province.
Executive Director, JPMC, Dr Seemin Jamali, was not available to make any comments.
