PIMA demands resolving medical students through dialogue

KARACHI: The Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) has demanded the government to consider the demands of medical students and young doctors in a productive light to resolve all issues like the National Licensing Exam (NLE) and the National Medical & Dental College Admission Test (NMDCAT) through dialogue and communication.

“To enforce decisions against ground facts related to the health sector, use of force is uncalled for. PIMA condemns the use of coercive measures by the police and the government, against medical students and young doctors in Islamabad.” the organization concurred.

“The current government is imposing arbitrary decisions by issuing ordinances, causing unrest and anxiety among stakeholders of the medical profession.” Prof. Dr Khubaib Shahid, Central President, PIMA, and Prof Dr Muhammad Tahir, General Secretary, PIMA, further expressed in the statement.

“For the past several months, medical students and young doctors have been protesting across the country, but the government is not ready to address their genuine concerns. The government should reconsider its policy towards such sensitive issues. These issues can only be resolved through dialogue instead of using police and state power. PIMA calls for inclusive democratic ways for decisions that should be taken by consensus among all health sector stakeholders”, they concluded.
