ISLAMABAD: It was advised that PMC abolish the MDCAT requirement for medical school admissions and medical licence issuance.

It also has been suggested that the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) repeal the 'conflict of interest' clause from the PMC Act 2020 and allow those regulated to participate in the body's regulatory and decision-making processes.

PMC should repeal MDCAT: Medical Association

According to a PMC statement, the ideas followed a meeting of Sindh Dental Colleges and a conference of all Pakistan Dental Colleges to explore the concerns surrounding the declining number of dental college admissions.

Letter from Sindh-based Medical Association to PMC

In a letter to PMC officials, a Sindh-based medical association requested the aforementioned changes, according to the statement.

The statement clarified that the revisions to the statute were, nevertheless, the Parliament's sole authority. It stated that similar concerns were made by the Sindh Government and that the Ministry of Health requested a report from the Commission.

In addition, the Commission has submitted a comprehensive report addressing all of the concerns, including the fact that all provinces and industries are represented and have a presence at the Commission and that each province has nominated members on the National Academic Board.
