Karachi: Sindh Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said that the provincial government keeping in view the influx of patients in Karachi has doubled the grant of public sector hospitals.

Presiding over a meeting at his office, he hoped that the Supreme Court will soon announce its verdict in a case pertaining to the issues of Jinnah Medical Postgraduate Centre’s (JPMC) employees so that the health department could take immediate measures for addressing the issues being faced by the health facility and its employees in the light of the apex court’s decision.

The minister informed the meeting that 170 closed dispensaries had been made functional in Tharparkar.

With regard to the recent increase in price of medicines, he said that the provincial government was unable to take action in this connection as the powers of regulating prices of medicines continues to be with the federal government despite the passage of 18th amendment whereby such powers were to be transferred to the provinces.

Earlier, the minister directed secretary health to get the fault of the JPMC’s MRI machine rectified without any further delay.

The meeting was told that though the hepatitis patients already registered with the Hepatitis Control Programme were being provided medicines, arrangements were being made to supply medicines to the newly-registered hepatitis patients, as well.
