KARACHI: Governor Sindh, Imran Ismail, recently donated his plasma for the treatment of coronavirus patients.
Chairman, National Institute of Blood Diseases (NIBD), Dr Tahir Shamsi, was also present on occasion. It is pertinent to mention here that after spending 17 days in isolation after contracting the coronavirus, Governor Sindh announced to donate his plasma for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
On occasion, Governor Sindh said that encouraging results were obtained by transfusion of plasma of recovered patients to those who are still infected with the ailment.
Governor Sindh urged every recovered corona patient to donate their plasma to save precious human lives. Passive immunization transfusion is now being used in developed countries for the treatment of corona patients, he added.
Governor Sindh said that the Almighty had allowed us to serve our fellow citizens, and we all should contribute towards the welfare of corona patients.
He said that the coronavirus is a reality that we have to learn to live with it. He said the only way to avoid the spread of COVID-19 is to ensure the implementation of precautionary measures and SOPs against corona.
Dr Tahir Shamsi lauded the gesture made by the Governor Sindh. This would motivate other recovered individuals to come forward and donate their plasma as well, he added. The plasma from a recovered patient can be injected into two COVID-19 patients, he said.
Dr Tahir further said that 80% of COVID-19 patients who undergo passive immunization do not need ventilators.
