KARACHI: According to sources at the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto (SMBB) Institute of Trauma, the CT (Computed tomography) scan machines developed faults a couple of weeks back and have not been repaired as yet.

Patients continued to face grave hardship at the SMBB Institute of Trauma as two CT scan machines lie out of order owing to a technical fault since the past couple of weeks.

Scores of patients were brought to the institution every day from different areas of Karachi and the rest of Sindh, the majority of whom required diagnostic services such as CT scans.

However, since the major diagnostic machines remained not functional, patients were being referred to various private sector hospitals and labs for CT scans.

Private labs charged hefty fees for conducting diagnostics tests, which the poor patients couldn’t afford. The SMBB Institute of Trauma offered all kinds of diagnostic facilities to its patients free of cost.

Chief Operating Officer (COO), SMBB Institute of Trauma, Dr Aijaz Zubedi, was not available to make any comments.
