Pilk, in simple terms in Pepsi, combined with milk. Hence the term "Pilk". Much like 'Proffee', protein mixed with coffee, Pilk is a strange new holiday drink that Pepsi has turned into a holiday campaign. However, nutritionists and medical experts have a different take on this strange combination.
While milk and cookies are an age-old tradition during the holiday season, Pepsi has given an odd twist to the culture by bringing in 'Pilk and cookies'.
However, Pepsi's new campaign includes a social media contest. People have been encouraged to try the drink and make a video of themselves having it, and post to social media by the 25th of December, using the hashtags "Pilkandcookies" and "Sweepstakes".
Nutritionists say that the combination of Pepsi and milk has been common amongst Pepsi fans, long before the campaign this year. However, the nutritional benefits, according to medical experts, are minimum.
Whether the drink has beneficial nutrients or not, according to the experts, depends on the type of milk used, its protein and fat content, as well as the ratio between milk and Pepsi.
Adding equal amounts of both soda and whole cow's milk into a glass, will not provide the nutrients required. Even though Pepsi contains 150 calories and 42g of sugar, milk contains 146 calories and 12g of sugar including protein and healthy fat content. Combining the two will not only provide empty calories and an extensive amount of sugar but the nutrients present in the milk will also diminish once diluted with the soda.
Experts have therefore advised against a regular intake of this holiday drink but informed that the drink can be taken moderately during holiday season
