KARACHI: As many as 39 employees of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), including doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and other administrative officials, have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) during the second wave so far.

Spokesperson, NICVD, informed that at least 39 employees of the institution, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, and others tested positive for COVID-19 in a month. He added that reports of 40 others have been on waiting, and they all had isolated at their homes after the appearance of symptoms.

He further informed that the NICVD had started the screening of staff after the positive and suspected cases surfaced. He said all healthcare workers had been instructed to strictly follow the standard operating procedure (SOPs) during their duty hours.

Quoting health experts, the spokesperson said that COVID-19 affects different people in different ways, and most infected people will develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalization. The most common symptoms include fever, dry cough, and tiredness, while less common symptoms include aches, pains, sore throat, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, headache, loss of taste or smell, a rash on the skin, or discoloration of the fingers or toes.
