NEW DELHI: According to reports in Indian media, the first case of coronavirus variant XE in India was discovered in Mumbai.
She's an aspiring costume designer who recently returned from South Africa. COVID-19 was found in her system on March 2, according to a press release from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
This strain was detected in the United Kingdom at the beginning of the year.
There have been 637 documented instances of the new type of XE in the UK so far, according to the country's health department on April 3.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) says that the novel mutation XE appears to be 10% more transmissible than the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron.
Indian authorities have also found evidence of the Kappa strain.
