YDA and YNA observe black day in Sindh over shortage of PPE

KARACHI: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Sindh and Young Nurses Association (YNA) Sindh observed black day from Karachi to Kashmore against the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare providers and the torture on medical staff by law enforcement agencies.

The young doctors, under the banner of YDA Sindh, observed black day against the lack of provision of PPE to health workers by the Sindh government, deduction in salaries, massive screening of people, and other demands.

The YDA demanded the provision of PPE to all health care professionals and a health risk allowance, as well as releasing the pending salaries of doctors and increasing the number of ventilators in public sector hospitals. They demanded that screening is done across Sindh, and an infectious disease hospital is established in each district of Sindh, like the Sindh Institute of Infectious Diseases.

Similarly, the Young Nurses Association Sindh protested across the Sindh province against the unavailability of safety kits in public sector hospitals and the torture on nurses by the police in Larkana and Karachi.

Central Leader of YNA Sindh, Aijaz Kaleri, noted that doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff urgently need personal protective equipment to win the war against the coronavirus. He said nurses in Sindh needed transport facilities to reach workplaces on time as they are facing hardship due to the lockdown situation in the province.

He informed that two male staff nurses were badly tortured by police officials in Larkana and Karachi a couple of days ago despite the exemption. He said such incidents shake the morale of the nurses who are working round the clock in the province to fight against the coronavirus.
