Lahore: Imran Sikandar Baloch, secretary, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (PP&SHD), Punjab, recently said 165 dengue patients were reported across Punjab during the last 24 hours.

In a press statement, he elaborated that 126 patients were reported in Lahore, 24 in Rawalpindi, four in Gujrat, and two in Attock, Faisalabad, and Nankana Sahib Sialkot. Sheikhupura, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rahim Yar Khan reported a single patient each, respectively.

He said 2,587 confirmed cases had been reported from Punjab, this year including 2,013 from Lahore. Of all documented cases, 319 patients were admitted across Punjab in various hospitals, with 170 in Lahore.

The secretary mentioned that during the last 24 hours, 347,550 indoor locations and 66,476 outdoor locations were checked across Punjab. Dengue larvae were destroyed from 1,348 locations.

In Lahore, 50,330 indoor spaces and 7,471 outdoor locations were checked for dengue larvae. 906 positive containers were destroyed.

“Please inform the worshipers that are coming to mosques about the prevention of dengue,” requested the secretary in a special appeal to the religious scholars of Punjab. He urged that preventive measures against dengue should also be taken, alongside COVID-19 preventative measures.

He further said that the public was requested to extend full cooperation to the health department teams if they come to private residences or business centres to check dengue larvae, as dengue is a dangerous fever and can prove fatal.

“Do not allow the storage of stagnant water at either indoor or outdoor places, as hygiene can prevent dengue mosquito breeding. Be a responsible citizen by keeping your surroundings neat and clean,” advised the secretary.
