SHCC organizes 3rd Technical Advisory Committee in Karachi

KARACHI: The 3rd meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Sindh Health Care Commission was recently held in Karachi where experts reviewed the registration process of healthcare establishments (HCEs) in Sindh province.

The meeting was attended by the Vice President of the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan, Dr AQ Javed Iqbal, representative of the National Centre of Homoeopathic Consultants (NCHC), Dr Akhlaq Ahmed, Chairman, Consumer Association of Pakistan, Kaukab Iqbal, ENT Surgeon and PMA Karachi, Dr Shaukat Malik, Professor of Psychiatry at JPMC, Iqbal Afridi, Dean, Ziauddin University, Dr Abbas Jaffar, focal person, National Council for Tibb, Hakim M Ahmed, Additional Director, DRAP, Dr Najam, and Member, National Council for Tibb, Sirajuddin.

In the meeting, it was discussed to expedite the registration process by involving electronic media and other sister organizations. The complaint form needs to be readily available for the complainant. It was also discussed that one member from DRAP might be appointed as a permanent member in the inspection team of the SHCC so as take immediate action if expired medicine or other expired devices were to be found in the pharmacies of any HCEs.

On the other hand, the Directorate of Anti-Quackery (SHCC) has sealed 49 clinics in Larkana being run by quacks and issued warning to 25 clinics. The Director of Anti-Quackery also met with Secretary Health, Sindh, to devise a future strategy to deal with the current situation of the spread of HIV cases in Larkana.

Only two patients have been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Darul Sehat Hospital while the rest of the patients were shifted to other hospitals or discharged at the instruction of the SHCC.

The Directorate of Licensing & Accreditation received 128 new applications for registration and certificates were issued to 97 HCEs this week bringing the total number of registration certificates issued to 4511. The team also inspected the Ziauddin Hospital Clifton and Dow Dental College, Karachi, last week.

The Directorate of Clinical Governance & Training is going to hold a meeting for Solid Waste Management soon.
