LAHORE: The Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) in Lahore successfully conducted split liver and pancreas transplant surgeries, marking the first of their kind in the country.
Dean Dr. Faisal Saud Dar of PKLI announced that two patients underwent these groundbreaking procedures, ultimately saving the lives of seven individuals through organ donations from a brain-dead patient in Rawalpindi.
Among the recipients, a 32-year-old named Uzair bin Yasin's liver was transplanted into both a child and a young adult, while Uzair's pancreas found its way to a type one diabetic patient, offering hope for a better quality of life.
Furthermore, the donated eyes and kidneys were transplanted into four patients in Rawalpindi, showcasing the profound impact of a single donor's generosity, potentially saving the lives of seven to ten individuals.
Dr. Faisal underscored the critical need for organ donation, emphasizing that thousands of lives are lost annually in Pakistan due to the scarcity of donors. Encouraging people to consider organ donation, he highlighted the immense potential to save numerous lives if more individuals participate in this life-saving act.
