KARACHI: Gwadar-to-Karachi PIA ATR airliner barely escaped a crash.
PIA Airline from Gwadar to Karachi saved from a crash
The PIA plane's tyre blew off on takeoff, but it successfully landed at Karachi's Jinnah International Airport, as reported.
The Karachi Control Tower informed the captain of the situation and declared an emergency at Karachi Airport after receiving timely communication from Gwadar ground employees.
After taking off from Gwadar on PK-504, a PIA spokeswoman, Abdullah H Khan, said that everything was "okay."
It could have been a tyre or another debris, but the control tower alerted the crew before takeoff that they had found some rubber on the runway and instructed them to take care of it.
He went on to say that one of the tyres was broken and deflated during the plane's landing in Karachi.
"The cause is unknown at this time," he stated. "A thorough investigation will be conducted, as is the case with any large or minor incident."
This incident would be investigated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board (AAIB), according to him.
"Whatever the cause was, it will be determined after the final assessment," the spokesperson said. "There was an object that damaged the tyre, or the runway was bumpy, or any other material issue."
