Newborn Care Clinic established at CHK

KARACHI: The Child Survival Program (CSP) in Sindh recently established a Newborn Care Clinic in the Paediatric OPD (Out Patient Departement) of the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).

Medical Superintendent, CHK, Dr Khadim Qureshi, and Director, Child Survival Program, Dr M N Lal, inaugurated the clinic. This clinic was established as per the WHO-UNICEF’s guidelines in regards to improving newborn and child survival.

Newborns are dying because of late diagnosis and improper care at the initial stage. This clinic will help in identifying ailments earlier and treating them as per new evidence based on the PSBI, IMNCI guidelines.

On this occasion, WHO-UNICEF officials, Dr Badar and Dr Kamal highlighted the importance of newborn care clinics in health facilities.

Head of the Paeds Ward, Dr Yousef, informed that this clinic would benefit thousands of newborns born in the CHK. Chief Guest, MS, CHK, Dr Khadim Qureshi, assured his full support for the newborn care clinic and allocation of staff.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of gifts to the retired Paeds OPD care staff and Admin, Resident MedicalmOfficer (RMO), Dr Shanker.
