JSMU workshop on quality assurance in varsities

KARACHI: A workshop aimed at enhancing quality assurance in universities was recently organized by the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), in collaboration with the Sindh Higher Education Commission (Sindh HEC).

The workshop focused on "Devising the Strategic Roadmap for Institutional Performance Evaluation Based on New QA Framework of HEC."

The event was attended by 52 individuals in person from Sindh and 68 joining virtually from various parts of Pakistan, including Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Gilgit, and KP, including quality assurance professionals and senior management representatives from public and private universities across Sindh.

The primary objective of the workshop was to equip participants with the necessary skills to effectively implement the parameters of the new Quality Assurance (QA) Framework introduced by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

JSMU Registrar Dr Azam Khan Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Saadia Akram applauded the dedication and enthusiasm shown by universities by actively participating and showing eagerness to learn in targeted areas.

Mr Saleem Uddin, Director of Quality Assurance at the Sindh HEC, praised the JSMU's QEC for organizing essential capacity-building sessions aimed at training QA professionals. He said such sessions not only aim to achieve targets but also cultivate a culture of quality, thereby enhancing higher education standards and practices.

Dr Abdul Wahid Usmani, Director QEC-JSMU, expressed his commitment to empowering university professionals with the necessary skills to implement the new QA Framework. He said that driving a positive transformation in higher education standards and practices is a collective effort.

Dr Usmani thanked JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof Amjad Siraj Memon for his confidence and support.

Dr Suraiya Khatoon, Additional Director QEC, and Mr Amir Anis, Deputy Director, along with the entire QEC team, played a significant role in ensuring the success of the event.

Overall, the workshop served as a platform to exchange knowledge, build skills, and foster collaboration among stakeholders, ultimately aiming to improve the standards and practices of education across Sindh and beyond.
