KARACHI- In light of International Day of People with Disabilities, Eminent Neurophysician, Dr Fowzia Siddiqui, paid a visit to the Rehabilitation Center of the Social Welfare Department at FC Area Karachi, where a program was held for children with special needs.
Whilst addressing the audience, Dr Fowzia urged the parents of special children to bring them to rehabilitation centers for treatment, instead of keeping them detained in homes.
Despite the lack of proper facilities at the rehabilitation center, differently abled people have shown great capacity to learn and contribute to society in their own special ways.
Dr Fowzia appreciated the efforts of teachers and trainers of the Rehabilitation Center. She expressed concern over how both the federal and provincial governments have designated poor funds for healthcare and education.
Prof. Tanveer Malik of Omap Researchers and Organizers expressed his thoughts regarding how our country has talented youth, but our rulers lack the aptitude to utilize such talent. He also remembered Dr Aafia Siddiqui, and mentioned how she was an expert in optimal utilization of learning capabilities of children.
A special student, Muhammad Shah Faisal, addressed the audience by stating that his fellows and himself were similar to normal people and deserved to be treated normally. He expressed some concerns regarding opportunities to excel in the society, and requested people to consider them of equal worth.
