Mayor Karachi distributes medical equipment in KMC hospitals

KARACHI: Mayor Karachi, Wasim Akhtar, claimed that the services of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) run health facilities have significantly been improved in contexts of the provision of life-saving drugs, medical equipment, and health delivery standards despite the financial constraints.

He expressed these views during the distribution ceremony of electromedical equipment and items worth Rs100 million among the medical superintendents and heads of KMC hospitals at the Karachi Institute of Kidney Diseases (KIKD).

Senior Director, Medical & Health Services, KMC, Dr Birbal, Dr Nadeem Rajput, Dr Asad Hussaini, Dr Azhar Hayat, Dr Huriah Mufeedi, Dr Nadeem, Dr Asif Sheikh, and others present on occasion.

Wasim Akhtar said that work still needs to be done to improve the services of KMC hospitals and urged all stakeholders of society to join hands with the KMC to overcome the financial issues concerning healthcare facilities.

He said that the improvement in healthcare is the top priority of the KMC; thus, more funds had been allocated for hospitals in this year's annual budget. He appealed to philanthropists to support the KMC to bring about improvements in health delivery systems.

In response to a question, Wasim Akhtar informed that the drive against stray-dogs launched by the KMC and Indus Hospital Karachi had been put to a halt due to financial issues. He demanded the provincial government to launch the drive against stray-dogs to protect citizens from rabies related complications.

The Mayor Karachi distributed electro-medical equipment to the heads of eight KMC hospitals including the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases, Sobhraj Maternity Hospital, Cardiac Emergency Centre Shah Faisal, Landhi Medical Complex, Primary Health Care Centre Lyari, Karachi Medical and Dental College, and others.
