KMC agrees to conduct fumigation and dengue awareness

KARACHI- Program Manager, Prevention, and Control Program for Dengue (PCPD) in Sindh, Dr Mahmood Iqbal, recently held a meeting with the Metropolitan Commissioner of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Dr Syed Saif Ur Rehman, at his office to discuss the dengue prevention and control activates.

They discussed the situation of dengue cases in Karachi, prevention and control measures, role, and responsibilities of the KMC, and the collaboration with the health department.

After a lengthy discussion, the following decisions were taken:

  • The KMC will nominate focal persons for all six districts and fourteen tertiary hospitals.

  • Fourteen tertiary level hospitals will report dengue cases regularly.

  • An orientation meeting of all nominated focal persons and staff of the Health Directorate of the KMC and the Dengue Program, Sindh Health Department, Government of Sindh, will be held during the coming month.


The KMC will conduct fogging, space spraying, and other larvicidal activities on its own throughout Karachi. The KMC will also conduct community awareness by using various means, including sessions in schools, colleges, and universities. The dengue program will provide a technical guideline and relevant material to the KMC to conduct the activities mentioned above.
