UHS sets schedule for nursing admissions and examinations

LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has approved the admission schedule and examination calendar for its BSc Nursing programs for the upcoming academic year.
The decisions were finalized during the 37th meeting of the UHS Board of Studies in Nursing, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, held on Wednesday.
Heads of affiliated public and private nursing colleges were informed that admissions for the four-year BSc Nursing degree program across Punjab will commence this month. The entry test and interviews are set for the second week of November, with the first merit list to be published in the third week of November. The final merit list will be released on December 31. Classes for the Fall Semester will begin on January 13, 2025, and the Spring Semester will start on July 1, 2025.
For the examination schedule in 2024, annual exams for the First Professional will be held in the first week of March 2025. The IInd Professional exams are scheduled for the first week of April 2025, the Third Professional exams for the second week of May 2025, and the Fourth Professional exams for the second week of June 2025. Evening session exams for the First Professional of the four-year BSc Nursing program will take place in the second week of October 2024.
In addition, it was decided to dedicate a section of the official journal, Biomedica, to nursing research papers and to include nursing faculty on its editorial board. Each nursing college will establish a Department of Nursing Education responsible for faculty training programs, with biannual reports to be submitted to the university. Plans for a separate nursing research journal are also in progress.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rathore announced the formation of a dedicated UHS nursing faculty, with registration to be managed through an online portal. To address equivalence issues with the Higher Education Commission, UHS will conduct a special exam in English, Pakistan Studies, and Islamic Studies for graduates of the two-year Post-RN Nursing program. This one-time exam will assist in obtaining BSc equivalence from the HEC. These subjects will also be incorporated into the Post-RN Nursing curriculum.
