DG Khan: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the country’s largest and first-ever school nutrition program at the Government Primary School. The initiative aims to combat malnutrition among students across the province.
During the event, CM Maryam Nawaz personally distributed milk cartons to students, assisting them in opening and consuming the milk. She engaged with the children, asking their names, praising their efforts, and sitting among them, which left the students both surprised and delighted.
In addition to interacting with the students, CM Maryam Nawaz inquired about their health and educational challenges. One student shared concerns about his father's unemployment, prompting the Chief Minister to instruct authorities to seek employment opportunities for the student's father.
Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat provided details about the pilot project, which is part of the “Chief Minister’s School Nutrition Programme.” This initiative has been launched in three districts of southern Punjab: Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, and Muzaffargarh. The program will benefit over 400,000 malnourished students by providing them with daily 175-milliliter milk packs. Students are expected to return empty milk packs to school, with the revenue from recycling these packs being reinvested into the schools.
Students had the chance to take photographs and receive autographs from CM Maryam Nawaz. Later, upon her arrival at the Commissioner’s Office, she was warmly greeted by a Border Military Police squad.
