KARACHI: The psychology University of Karachi department organised a seminar entitled “Psychological interventions for children who experienced trauma” at KU Arts Auditorium. It was facilitated by Dr Panos Vostanis, Professor of Child Mental Health at the University of Leicester (UK).

Dr Sajida Hassan, The Head of the Department of Child and Adolescent Development Program under Hussaini Foundation, emphasised the mental well-being of children and highlighted its significance for future development. Meanwhile, Professor Dr Anila Amber Malik, the departmental chairperson, shed light that, ironically, we do not support people who have mental illness and do not help them get treatment on time.

She observed that if treatment of any trauma is not ensured in time, then it could cause significant psychological problems on a long-term basis. Professor Dr Anila Amber Malik shared that healthy activities are necessary for good health.

According to her, this seminar was conducted in continuation of the mental health awareness series to introduce evidence-based psychological interventions to understand the efficacy of psychotherapeutic treatment among children exposed to trauma.

On this occasion, Dr Nusrat Idress, the Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, said that holding such seminars is the need of the hour and that we need to promote awareness about mental health, keeping in mind the social problems of today. She mentioned that a healthy society could not grow from a sick mind; a practical reason is necessary to create a healthy community.

The pupils of different departments attended the seminar well, and a Q/A session was held at the end of the event.
