Shortage Of Trained Vascular Surgeons In Karachi’s Government Hospitals -

KARACHI-   Major hospitals of Karachi’s public sector, have currently been facing acute shortage of Vascular Surgeons; patients in need of vascular surgeries are being referred to private hospitals.

Sindh Government and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) hospitals, include Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi and other health facilities in various remote areas of Karachi.

Due to this shortage, many patients became disabled, while dozens lost their lives, due to unavailability of vascular surgery related facilities.

Sindh Government has failed to hire and train young doctors to cater such cases. Therefore, patients with vascular surgery requirements are being referred to Aga Khan Hospital and Liaquat National Hospital from the public sector hospitals, as these facilities are only available at these two private hospitals of Sindh.

Quite a number of patients visit the emergency departments of these major government hospitals, with damaged veins and arteries. These poor patients are bound to pay heavy fees at private hospitals to undergo treatment, out of which, some are un able to pay, and are left to suffer from disabilities and other associated complications.
