Sindh Govt. Release Grant for KMC Hospitals

KARACHI- Sindh Government has released grant of Rs 394 million for purchase of medicines and improvement of infrastructure of for health facilities run by Medical & Health Services Department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).


Sources at Medical & Health Services Department (KMC) told the Chief Minister Sindh has released special grant of Rs 394 million for expenditures of hospitals. The Sindh government grant would be utilised for purchase of drugs, provision of diagnostic facilities and new projects. Sources said Rs 177 million would be utilized for purchase of medicines and provision diagnostic facilities while Rs 217 million would be spent on improvement of infrastructure.


Sources further informed that Director Medical & Health Services (KMC), held a meeting with heads or medical superintendents of KMC hospitals and directed them improve health delivery system in their respective health facilities.


Senior Director Medical & Health Services of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Dr. Birbal Genani, confirmed release of grant for KMC hospital by Sindh Government. He informed that tender for purchase of medicines and new projects would be issued soon.


The shortage of funds with the country’s largest municipality had badly affected its health delivery system. The number of patients to the KMC’s hospitals, including the tertiary facility of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, had declined in last five years due to unavailability of drugs and diagnostic facilities.
