Karachi: Terming the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority’s (SBTA) building `a landmark’ in the province’s quest for providing safe blood to the masses, Health Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar said that Sindh was the first province to have its own building for its blood transfusion authority.
Speaking to the SBTA’s secretary Dr Zahid Ansari at his chamber in the Sindh Assembly building, he emphasized the need for keeping the activities of illegal blood banks in check to ensure safe blood transfusion to patients.
He also directed the officials concerned to complete ongoing construction work on the SBTA building at earliest.
Dr Ansari briefed the minister on the SBTA performance.
Meanwhile, taking a notice of non-supply of medicines to the patients in Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences, he asked the director of the health facility to ensure uninterrupted supply of medicines to the patients.
The minister said work is in progress for developing health department’s website.
He claimed that measures taken by the government for ensuring transparency in the health department as well as for the eradication of corruption had started yielding positive results.
