LGH moot urges media, civil society to play role in dengue eradication 

LAHORE: Dengue is both a social and medical challenge, and healthcare professionals, civil society, and media can play a vital role in combating it by raising awareness about the disease among the masses. 
Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Principal Prof Dr Muhammad Al-Fareed Zafar said this while addressing a on "Prevention of Dengue is Everyone's Shared Responsibility" at Lahore General Hospital, organised by Deputy Chief Nursing Superintendent Zamurd Khursheed. 
Prof Zafar said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab government aims to eradicate dengue in the province.
Emphasizing the role of women, he said: "Women, who make up more than half of our population and are active in the health and education sectors, can play a crucial role in maintaining household hygiene and preventing the spread of dengue." 
Other experts at the seminar highlighted the symptoms of dengue, including fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, nausea, vomiting, eye pain, swollen glands, and skin itching, besides outlining preventive measures.
Addressing the media, the PGMI principal reiterated that free medical services are being provided to dengue patients. 
He also paid tribute to the late Asma Kanwal, a second-year nursing student and daughter of a blind father, who lost her life while serving at Lahore General Hospital during the dengue outbreak 13 years ago.
