Aseefa reaffirms resolve to fight TB

ISLAMABAD: Reiterating her commitment to combat Tuberculosis (TB) in Pakistan as well as globally, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Aseefa Bhutto Zardari has said it should be ensured that the underserved segments are provided adequate support against the disease.
During a meeting with the leadership of the Dopasi Foundation and a delegation of parliamentarians led by Dr Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro, she discussed ways and means to address Pakistan’s TB burden and closing the gaps in TB care, particularly for the underprivileged.
Prominent TB advocates, including Dr Mehreen Bhutto, Sehar Kamran, Khursheed Junejo, and Musarat Rafique, were also present.
The meeting also reviewed Pakistan’s progress since the 2023 United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB and explored strategies to overcome challenges in TB notification and treatment.
On the occasion, Ms Aseefa pledged to lead the national and international TB advocacy efforts. "I am proud to lend my voice to the fight against TB. This is not just a health issue but a matter of dignity and justice for millions affected by this preventable disease. Together, we can ensure no one is left behind, and every individual receives the care and support they deserve," she said.
The PPP leader was also briefed on the upcoming Regional Leaders’ Summit 2024 on TB and Climate Change, as well as the TB Survivors Event, where she accepted the role of chair.
She vowed to advocate for the rights of TB survivors and push for equitable access to quality healthcare across all provinces.
She also praised the efforts of the End TB Parliamentary Caucus, led by Dr Shazia Soomro, hosted by the Dopasi Foundation in collaboration with the Stop TB Partnership. This initiative fosters cross-provincial collaboration for TB advocacy.
Aseefa Bhutto Zardari called for increased participation from parliamentarians across the country to create a unified response to TB.
