KARACHI: The administration of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) has appointed the former principal of the College of Physiotherapy, Riaz Baig Chughtai, as academic director, allegedly in violation of established rules and regulations.
JPMC Executive Director Shahid Rasool, who himself is serving on deputation, assigned this key position to the retired officer on a two-year contract, without issuing any public advertisement for the post.
According to College of Physiotherapy sources, Mr Chughtai is receiving a substantial monthly salary in his role as academic director.
Meanwhile, the college is faced with many challenges, including the lack of a library and laboratory facilities, despite generating significant revenue from student fees.
When approached for comment, Riaz Baig Chughtai declined to respond.
