Polio strikes again in Balochistan, 46th case confirmed

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported its 46th polio case of 2024, with the latest case emerging from Quetta’s Qila Saifullah district in Balochistan. The National Reference Laboratory confirmed the presence of wild poliovirus type 1 in the affected child.
This marks the second polio case in Qila Saifullah this year, raising concerns about the ongoing transmission of the virus in the region. In total, Balochistan has reported 23 cases of polio in 2024. Other provinces have also seen cases, with Sindh recording 12, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 9, and Punjab and Islamabad one case each.
The resurgence of polio cases underscores the continued challenges in eradicating the disease in certain areas of the country.
