MN Report

KARACHI- A Mother & Neonatal Child Healthcare Centre set up at Red Crescent Maternity Home, located in Orangi Town-5, was inaugurated by Pakistan Red Crescent Society’s Sindh chapter Chairperson Ms Farzana Naek.

The maternity home having 10 beds has a team of experienced doctors and paramedical staff.
The inauguration ceremony was attended, among others, by PRCS’s provincial secretary Kanwar Waseem, managing committee members - Sheikh Jalaluddin and Dr Majid Alvi – and provincial health manager Dr Syed Ali Warsi.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Naek said that Red Crescent’s MNCH Centre will provide specialized treatment to newly-born babies as almost half of deaths in infancy take place in the first month of life.

“We cannot be a strong nation unless every child is healthy,” she remarked.

Emphasising the need for extending health care services to remote areas of Sindh, she said that the MNCH centre should be equipped with ultrasound, nursery and a laboratory so that effective and quality health services could be provided to poor people.

Later, during her visit to the Maternity Home and Emergency Response Team Centre (West), Ms Naek was informed by Dr Fauzia that more than 200 deliveries were carried out in the maternity home in the last five months.

Besides, the EPI centre, located in the premises of maternity home, administered vaccination to 3,500 children in the last five months.

Residents of Orangi Town present on the occasion appreciated the health care services being provided in the locality by Red Crescent.
