Plea to exempt Qatar Hospital from load-shedding

KARACHI- Head of Orangi Town’s Sindh government  Qatar Hospital has made a passionate appeal to K-Electric management to exempt health care facility from unannounced load-shedding as it was not only causing immense hardships to patients, but was also badly affecting performance of medical staff.

Voicing serious concern over unannounced load-shedding and frequent power failures of longer duration, the hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Syed Khalid Masood said the Qatar Hospital which was serving the inhabitants of the Asia’s largest slum area should be excluded from the list of load-shedding localities.

Elaborating, he said that 10-hour long power failures during day time often compel doctors to postpone surgical operations as the hospital was without any backup facility. “One cannot realize the agonies of those patients whose surgical operations are postponed due to unavailability of electricity,” the MS remarked.

He hoped that the K-Electric bosses realizing the sufferings of the patients would exempt the health facility from load-shedding as they have done in the case of other major hospitals of the metropolis such as Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Civil Hospital Karachi, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, etc.

Highlighting the importance of the Qatar Hospital, he said that the hospital with 416-bed is visited by over 3,500 patients daily, besides being a teaching hospital.
The hospital’s major OPDs include gynecology, orthopaedics, ENT, cardiac emergency, while other facilities such as dialysis, emergency care, diagnostic and blood bank service, are being provided to residents of sprawling Orangi Township and its adjacent localities free of cost.
