KARACHI- The foreign and local surgeons of Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), successfully performed seven liver transplants, over a week’s span at SIUT.
The transplants were performed in collaboration with two visiting surgeons from Iran and three counterparts from SIUT. All the surgeries performed were absolutely free of cost, as a part of the institute’s philosophy to provide free treatment with dignity.
The patients included two minors, age ranging between 10 to 11, whereas the remaining patients were adults. All the patients belonged to low income groups, who traveled all the way from Southern Punjab, Baluchistan and Interior Sindh, to undergo treatment.
According to the hospital sources, donors for these transplants were a mother, husband and sibling, who were reported to be doing well, post surgery.
Kidney Transplant is the flagship of SIUT, as they have carried out over 5,000 procedures, ever since the program got initiated in 1985.
