Religious scholars support polio vaccination

KARACHI - Dean of Religious Studies Faculty, Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST),Prof Abdul Rasheed has stated that; Around the world, religious scholars and leading Muslim health practitioners have successfully prevented their  young generations from the crippling polio disease in their respective countries,  by accepting the effectiveness of the vaccine, but unfortunately the concerned authorities in Pakistan have failed to control the spread of this disease in Pakistan.

He shared these views while addressing a workshop on topic: Children Diseases and Religious Studies” organized by International Research Council for Religious Affairs (IRCRA) held at local hotel.  The representatives of IRCRA Maulana Muhammad Asim Makhdoom, Communication & Reporting Officer, CM Sindh Polio Control Cell, Muhammad Amir, Maulana Hammad Ullah Madni and Dr Abdul Majid were also addressed the event.

Prof Rashid said; Joint efforts are needed to curb the polio disease otherwise the national economy will be destroyed due to the rising polio cases. He said ; the whole world has eliminated the polio disease but only Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria are the remaining countries where polio cases are still emerging despite various efforts. He said vaccination of polio to children is the responsibility of parents.

Speakers said; According to research; 85 percent polio cases in the world are being reported in Pakistan due to which the country is facing international travel restrictions. They feared that Pakistan might face complete travelling ban which would lead the country economy towards destruction if concrete step could not be taken immediately in this regard. 

Speakers stressed the need of joint efforts to protect the young generation and the future of Pakistan from polio and other fatal diseases.
