JSMU Syndicate poll: Dr Khattak, Prof Ali elected as Senate representatives

KARACHI: Dr. Abdul Jabbar Khattak, an alumnus of Sindh Medical College, and Prof Shahzad Ali, a Urology teacher at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, have been elected to the Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) Syndicate as its Senate representatives.

The elections took place under the supervision of Prof Dur Muhammad, Head of the Department of Pathology. Four Senate members from JSMU contested for the two available Syndicate seats, as stipulated by the JSMU Act of 2013.

Out of 47 registered voters, 39 participated in the election.

Dr. Surraya Sarwat acted as the returning officer, with Adil Sikander Jat as assistant returning officer and Syed Ali Kashan presided over the process. Four polling agents were also present to ensure the election's transparency.

Dr. Khattak bagged 27 votes, while Prof Ali secured 19 votes. Prof Mohsina Noor Ibrahim and Prof Huma Shareef received 17 and 11 votes, respectively.

The results were officially validated by the Election Commissioner, Prof Dur Muhammad.

JSMU Vice Chancellor Prof Amjad Siraj Memon congratulated the newly elected representatives and welcomed them to the Syndicate.
