ISLAMABAD: The confirmation of two new cases of wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) in children from Zhob and Tank districts of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has further alarmed healthcare experts in Pakistan battling against polio.
Health officials have reported a total of 28 cases nationwide in 2024, highlighting the growing public health challenge.
The latest patients -- a young girl from Zhob, Balochistan, and a boy from Tank, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) -- have been confirmed by the Regional Reference Laboratory at the National Institute of Health.
