DRAP warns against unregistered rabies vaccine

ISLAMABAD: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a public health warning regarding the circulation of counterfeit anti-rabies vaccines in the market, ordering  immediate recall of a suspected vaccine, for the safety of dog bite patients.
According to DRAP’s alert, reports have emerged about the circulation of an unregistered anti-rabies vaccine, ‘Shore Rab,’ batch RO10821, manufactured by an Indian company.
It warned the use of unregistered vaccines like Shore Rab poses significant risks, as their quality and safety remain unknown.
In response, DRAP has deployed regulatory field teams to conduct market surveillance and investigate the supply chain of this counterfeit product, ordering immediate seizure of the identified batch.
Pharmacies and drug distributors have been advised to remove the suspected vaccine from their stocks, and healthcare providers told to refrain from administering it to patients.
