Provincial Minister Health Visit DUHS, Discusses New Transparent System for Hiring Medical Staff

KARACHI - Provincial Minister for Health, Sindh, Dr. Azra Pechuho informed that, no political or reference based recruitment will be done in the Health Department in near future and a transparent system will be introduced for hiring of staff on merit.

Dr. Azra discussed about these new implementations, during her recent visit to Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS). Vice Chancellor, DUHS, Prof Dr. Saeed Quraishy, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Zarnaz Wahid and Head of Department Forensic Medicine, Prof Mukarram Ali were also present on this occasion.

Provincial Minister added that, a competency test will be conducted for the posts of District Health Officers and Medical Superintendents, through DUHS.

She further told everyone how she is also an alumni of Dow Medical College (DMC), and according to her comparison to the olden days, the campus seems to be highly groomed and progressed now. She added that, she would work to further improve the campus, with the help of latest facilities and advanced medical education. The up-gradation of Skills Lab and other projects of Dow University will now be accelerated.

Discussing about Polio, Dr. Azra added that polio campaigns being run in Sindh have been successful and no polio case has been reported since January 2018, whereas 05 cases of polio were reported in the province of Balochistan and KPK.

She also explored the aspect of Certificate Courses, which according to her, will be initiated for authentic training of staff of the Health Sector, and she handed this responsibility over to DUHS.

In an answer regarding the lack of Lady MLOs, she replied that the Medical Officers (Male / Female) at government hospitals can deal with medico-legal cases; thus there shouldn’t be any issues regarding that.

Furthermore, she expressed gratification after visiting Dow Medical College and was glad to witness a large number of female students.

She visited different departments and exchanged words of encouragement with the students.

Later onwards, Sindh Health Minister, Dr. Azra Pechuho was presented with a shield of appreciation and memory by honorable Prof  Dr. Mohammad Saeed Quraishy.
